Oz's Champagne and Cars Tour

The Chateau de Fere, perfectly complemented by our three classic cars for the weekend! We popped over to the Champagne region of France with wine guru Oz Clarke and a few friends. You can drive over to this beautiful part of France in your own car in just two hours from Calais - perfect for a weekend break. We decided we would make the most of the journey too, and motored down with three fantastic classic cars very kindly lent to us by Steve at Self Drive Classics - a Jaguar XJS, a Jaguar MkII and a very cute little MGB.

We stayed in the The Chateau de Fere (foreground) overlooked by the 12th Century castleromantic Château de Fère in the Picardy region en route to Champagne. It was dark by the time we arrived and after we had checked out the charming bedrooms, we tucked into an awesome six-course meal, including a melt-in-the-mouth paté de foie gras studded with apricots and a cheese selection to die for. We naturally let Oz choose the wines and were not disappointed, kicking off with a glass of champagne, of course – Casters Superieure Réserve du Château. Also of note was a particularly gorgeous Gewurztraminer Seigneur de Ribeaupierre wine.
