Provence
You are in the
heart of Provence; the Provence of Luberon and the high perched villages,
of Mont Ventoux and
lavender fields, the region with Avignon as a capital city, the one with
festivals, colourful markets, truffles and olive oil, delicious baked
bread…
Provence has such an attraction to visitors,
echoed by the classic 'Year in Provence' diaries by Peter Mayle. Classic
Holywood film director Ridley Scott also has a house in Vaucluse, a picturesque
village in the heart of Provence.
The real challenge for all cyclists, of
course, is Mont Ventoux, one of the most challenging climbs on the Tour
de France. Throughout Vaucluse lies
an inexhaustible
network of bike paths
for cyclists looking for strong emotions in spectacular landscapes.
In and around Mont Ventoux, the Dentelles de Montmirail and from one
end
of the Luberon to the other, there are bike circuits, guides, accommodation,
rental companies and hundred of kilometres to cycle away, on the small
roads or off-road on mountain bikes.
There is no risk
to get lost as the itinerary is signposted at each major crossroad. Information
boards, along with
a map, provide information
on tourist sites, accommodation, shops, bike rental and repair shops… and
suggest secondary itineraries (not signposted).

and accommodation, visit Vaucluse's dedicated cycling website
